Extract, compare and review

How to extract text from a website

  1. Paste the URL of one public webpage and select Convert to text. The browser loads its HTML, runs JavaScript and scrolls to trigger lazy content.
  2. Choose Visible text, All page text or Original HTML text. Review the word and character counts, and use Find text to locate a passage.
  3. Select Copy text or Download .txt to save the selected view. The UTF-8 text file preserves paragraphs, punctuation and supported Unicode characters.

One webpage text extractor, three views

Visible text contains rendered body text, including navigation and footer. Use it to read the copy after JavaScript has loaded. CSS visibility rules are applied, although clipped or off-screen accessibility text can still appear.

All page text also includes hidden menus, collapsed sections and repeated desktop/mobile elements present in the rendered page. It helps reveal copy that is difficult to spot on screen.

Original HTML text shows text received before JavaScript runs. Compare it with the rendered views to find content added or changed by scripts. Script and stylesheet code is excluded from all views.

Review website content without the layout

Plain text makes repeated passages, unexpected menu copy and broken sentences easier to inspect. Paragraph breaks and duplicate passages are preserved. Inline formatting stays within the surrounding sentence, so a word split across HTML tags can still be read as a word.

Text follows page structure order, which can differ from the visual arrangement of columns. The page title and meta description are shown separately from body text. This is a content snapshot, not a prediction of what Google indexes or a ranking score.

For a closer look at repeated terms, use the keyword density checker and word cloud. To review destinations, anchors and HTTP status codes, use the internal and external link analyzer.

Website to text converter FAQ

Can this URL to text converter read JavaScript and AJAX?

Yes. Browser rendering is included for guests and registered users. The tool runs page scripts, allows AJAX requests, scrolls to trigger lazy loading and briefly waits for text to settle. It also supports open shadow roots and hash-based page routes. Late updates and content requiring button clicks may be missing.

Is the website text extractor free?

Yes. Guests can convert 10 pages per hour without signing up. Logged-in users can run 60 conversions per hour. Each conversion processes one URL, with one active conversion per browser session. Copying text and downloading TXT files are included.

How can I download a webpage as a text file?

Convert the webpage URL, choose a text view and select Download .txt. The download contains that view as plain UTF-8 text. You can also copy it to your clipboard for a document, content review or research notes.

How is this different from an HTML to text converter?

This tool takes a live webpage URL and can extract content added by JavaScript. A converter that only strips tags from pasted HTML cannot see content loaded afterward. Linquisitor does not accept pasted HTML or uploaded HTML files; use Original HTML text to inspect text from the downloaded page source.

Why might some webpage text be missing?

Rendering is bounded to about 30 seconds, 150 requests and 25 MB of downloads. Each text view is capped at 300,000 characters and 30,000 traversed nodes. Failed resources and extraction limits are reported as partial results. If browser rendering fails, only original HTML text is available and is labeled accordingly.

Pages requiring login or CAPTCHA, endless scrolling, embedded frames, WebSocket updates and service workers may be unavailable. Closed shadow roots, images and canvas text are not extracted. Cookie banners may remain because the tool does not click consent buttons.

Can I convert an entire website or keep a permanent result?

Each run extracts text from one webpage, rather than crawling the whole website. Results belong to the browser session that requested them and expire after one hour. Download the text to keep a copy. Reloading this tool retains the entered URL and starts a fresh conversion.
